River Bed Installation – Newport
The Brief
The client was having water issues during heavy rain events where water would sheet over a large hardstand section into the garden below causing erosion, soil loss and plant dieback.
Our Approach
In collaboration with Soil and Soul Horticulture, we suggested installing a dry river bed catchment. This would catch excess water, fill up and then slowly distribute water in a controlled fashion.
Outcomes
Dry river bed to catch and store excess water. The river bed was designed to hold water in wet periods and release water when levels are reached.
The river bed acts much the same way as a swale but river stone gives a nicer river effect.
The river bed also provides habitat to frogs and can be planted with water-tolerant plants to increase plant diversity.
